About My Positive Affirmations

How I Got Started

At night while I took the time to wind down and meditate on what I really wanted out of my life, I began to realize that I was really craving more positivity. I was/am surrounded by media that dictates what I should or shouldn’t be or do. Whether implying it or right out saying it, the message to the public is the same. You aren’t good or happy enough unless you have (__ insert: brand name product / hair color / specify a form of entertainment here __).

We are constantly surrounded by these negative affirmations and jaded by the most depressing/bizarre of news stories. Blame the media; blame the parents; blame… yourself? It really doesn’t matter where it comes from, it’s still input. And whether it’s subliminal or not, the negative stuff was getting to me.

I started writing down little affirmations on 3×5 note cards and I began to visualize them as I read them. I just want to share a little bit of the positive and empowering ones.

Considering the billions of dollars companies pay annually for slogans like: “Maybe she’s born with it, Maybe it’s Maybelline” and “Breakfast of Champions” to be repeated and reused in commercial material of multiple mediums there has to be something to this repetition thing.

Without the right timing, wording, and understanding beforehand, affirmations are kinda corny. But you know what? They really have helped me so much recently.

A few things I hope for you to learn about positive affirmations on my blog while reading my blog:

  • Positive Affirmations (aka Self Administered Positive Reinforcements) work.
  • You do not have to chant / sing / or even say them out loud (to anyone else but yourself). -That is, unless you want to.
  • Outside forces (aka bad luck, people, or taxes) will not be directly affected or changed by your positive thoughts, but you will be able to influence more.
  • However you choose to perceive yourself or situation – that is going to be your reality. That’s what they mean when they say “you have the power to change your own life, by changing your mind”. That’s also probably the significance of Wendy, John, and Michael having to think of a happy thought to focus on before the pixie dust worked.

    think of a wonderful thought

I started writing down little affirmations on note cards and I began to visualize them as I read them. At night while I take the time to wind down and meditate on what I really wanted out of my life, and really what I was craving was positivity. The truth is affirmations are kinda corny. But you know what? I don’t care. We are surrounded by negative affirmations, I just want to share a little bit of the positive and empowering ones.

We have so many things going on in our lives that we are missing the whole point. (If there is one. – And I believe wholeheartedly there is. ) Whether you are looking for hope, love, peace or balance – you won’t find it anywhere accept within yourself. You have to stop right now and listen to what you have allowed to occupy your mind.

Do you find yourself wondering about what others might be thinking of you? (I do sometimes, even when it doesn’t really matter.)

The truth is, it’s part of human nature to let the bad stuff occupy your mind. These are our challenges in life. We are constantly worried about saying and doing the right things thus causing ourselves to be planning future situations. In the same sense we also run through the ” would of, should of could of’s ” and unintentionally live in the past.

It’s time to live in the present. I have found an indescribable state of being, by simply learning to just “be” exactly where I am. I am reprogramming my brain to the right channel and living my life to the fullest. You can too.

    How Long Does It Take?

This isn’t an instant miracle cure for all the bad stuff in your life or anything. It takes a little time (a few days? weeks?) to really see big results. It probably took many of us a lifetime of negative affirmations to get us to where we are when we wake up and realize how much negativity is affecting us.

What Do I Do When I Find Myself Spiraling Again

If you are finding yourself dwelling or even being overwhelmed with the bad stuff one of these days don’t worry. Try again. If you are truly smothered at some point and don’t know where to begin finding the good things again, begin with something you are thankful for. Coming out of these lows can be so much like seeing the end of a storm.

If you read these and like them, then you should write your own. The more personal they are, the more powerful they are.

Change your internal dialogue to build yourself up, and you will reach your potential.
